Joe’s Chicago, the first outpost in Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants’ partnership with Joe’s Miami Beach, opened in October 2000, and 25 years later holds a special place in the heart of steak-and-seafood-loving Chicagoans and visitors alike.

First up, join Joe’s Chicago for a 25th Anniversary Reception on Saturday, October 18, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, to enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and merriment, and a toast with our team to 25 years. The evening will include bites of seafood, prime steak, and of course, famous Florida Stone Crab. Tickets are available for $125 per person, plus tax (gratuity not included).

Next, the restaurant is raising the steaks with a special four-course 25th Anniversary Menu available from Monday, October 20 – Friday, October 31, featuring a range of Joe’s Seafood signatures for $125 per person, plus tax (gratuity not included). Start with Joe’s famous Florida Stone Crab, then choose from a selection of starters, entrées, sides, and desserts, including favorites such as Crab Bisque, Filet Mignon, and Joe’s Fried Chicken. This special menu is available for dine-in only.

Along with the countless holidays, birthdays, rehearsal dinners and other special occasions that Joe’s Chicago has hosted over the years, we wanted to take a look back at some of the crab-tastic milestones and memorable moments that have defined our first two-and-a-half decades.
In October 2000, the first Florida stone crab arrived via limousine to Joe’s Chicago at the corner of Grand and Rush, quickly becoming a cherished staple of the city’s downtown dining scene. The location was the first in Lettuce’s partnership with Joe’s Stone Crab, which now also includes locations in Las Vegas and Washington, D.C.
Since then, over the past 25 years, Joe’s Chicago has:
…cracked more than 3.5 million Florida Stone Crab claws to order.
…double-broiled more than 1 million prime steaks to order, such as the 32-oz. Bone-In Porterhouse.
…earned Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards for 23 consecutive years starting in 2003, led by Wine & Spirits Director Kevin Bratt.
…served more than 450,000 slices of Ice Box Chilled Key Lime Pie.
…baked more than 6,000 famous Joe’s Whole Pies, which first became available for purchase for Thanksgiving in 2003, allowing fans to bring their most beloved desserts to holiday tables and other celebrations year-round.
…stirred up more than 200,000 Rye Old Fashioneds, a favorite during Joe’s Chicago’s weekday Happy Hour!
A draw for Chicago celebrities and pro athletes, Joe’s Chicago welcomed the Stanley Cup for an exclusive photoshoot in the main dining room in 2010, and catered the Chicago Cubs through the team’s World Series win in 2016. The restaurant’s generous private event spaces, which can accommodate up to 180 guests, have hosted many milestone celebrations, corporate functions, and more, over the years.
Of course, Joe’s Chicago couldn’t have made it to 25 without our loyal guests and incredible employees—including 35 tenured employees who hold 10-year emerald crab pins and 22 team members who have earned 20-year diamond crab pins—so thank you for all of your support over the last 25 years!
